He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true. For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.
John 3:31-35
Jesus came from heaven to tell us all that He had seen and heard regarding our salvation. Nicodemus struggled with the heavenly truth because he was trying to understand it by earthly standards. Jesus deals with us in the complete fullness of the Spirit that God gave Him without measure. God has given the entire matter into Jesus’ hands. Jesus by God’s will along with the unlimited access to God’s Spirit saved us by recreating us.
Those who receive this testimony from Jesus verify God’s work by demonstrating it in their lives. Jesus has spoken the Word of God concerning the salvation He has provided. When we receive the Word and by that acceptance bring Jesus into our lives by the regeneration of our spirit by His Spirit people will be able to see the new life in us without question.
The next few verses in this passage close the deal with God for our salvation. He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; he who doesn’t believe the Son will not receive life but instead will receive God’s wrath.
