Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. John 6:13
It seems clear that Jesus wants us to know that He can provide abundantly for those He ministers to. He provided more than enough for everyone to be satisfied. But there is a more personal message here too.
That message is contained in the detail John gives saying that the disciples recovered twelve baskets of leftover barley bread. Twelve disciples -- twelve baskets. One basket for each worker to let them that Jesus hadn't overlooked their needs in the hectic activity of ministry. He had provided enough for their families as well as the crowd who had followed them into the wilderness.
As ambassadors of Christ we can count on that same character in Jesus. He is the same yesterday today and forever. He will take care of our personal needs even when kingdom life gets busy. We can count on it because we can count on Him.
