Tent Living -- July 30, 2009

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14

This is the core message of the gospel. Jesus came to us and met us in our weakness. “Dwelt” is the word tabernacled or tented among us. God, Himself, pitched His tent with ours. That is He put on flesh like us and lived truly as one of us. This is the incarnation of the One who was wholly God and wholly man in one person. The way this happened/is happening/will happen is a mystery to us. How God pitches His tent among us is wonderful in our sight! It makes us wonder. How did He do that? More importantly, why did He do that?

He didn’t have to do it. He would have been fine without us. He had His triune self. He had the angels who had remained loyal to Him when Satan led the rebellion against Him. He had all of Heaven which is too great for us to imagine. When our first parents failed He could have rolled it all up and went home to glory, so to speak. The message is clear in the incarnation: Glory to God in the highest; peace on Earth; goodwill towards men. We have received the “Good News” to the fullest extent. God is on our side. He is working for our benefit. It is obvious that He loves us unto death, literally.

To top it all off Jesus brought us the fullness of grace without lessening the fullness of truth. He has not come to OK our sin. He has come to pay for it and rescue us from it. We are twice cured, blessed beyond all curses we have brought upon ourselves by rebelling against Him.

Under His Good Will,

Pastor Jason
