Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:13-16
We are called to think things through and realize that God’s grace alone as it was revealed in Christ is our only hope. Then we are to place our confidence in its entirety on that grace. We are to demonstrate the fullness of our hope is Christ by changing lifestyles.
Our Father has called us to a life of applied holiness. We have received holiness from our new relationship with Christ. Now like little children who want to impress an older brother we are to conduct our lives in the same manner that He does. Our Father is holy, Our Savior is Holy and His Spirit is called HOLY. The only reasonable thing we can do is to be like them. God desires us to consecrate our lives to Him by conducting ourselves in the same way He does as He has revealed to us in scripture and Christ.
Peter goes on in this passage to remind us that our Father judges without partiality. He will discipline us for our unholy behaviors. Peter also emphasizes that Jesus saved us with an incorruptible sacrifice. It was not material wealth that saved us so that we can pay off the judge. It was the very life of His Son that saved us to the uttermost and that is the standard we will be judged by. Settle in on His grace as your foundation to live a holy life. A life that He will evaluate based on the price paid for it.
Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty,
Pastor Jason
