Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
James 5:16-18
James 5:16-18
It is time for the church to combat sin by being honest with each other in an atmosphere of love that prays for the other to be healed. The Lord has planned it so that we belong to each other and need each other to receive all that He has for us. It takes brothers and sisters together to advance the kingdom agenda for the sake of us all. Unity increases our anointing and blessing. (Psalm 133:1-3)
On top of that we need to move back to prayer. We have all kinds of programs to help us get better. It seems that the more complicated/difficult the task is the more we relish as a community. Yet the church is to be a house of prayer. We forget that the powerful, passionate prayer of a brother who isn’t struggling with the area of sin we are can heal the soul’s sickness so that we deal with the source of our issue instead of coping with the symptoms.
Here in this passage, James assures us that this powerful tool called prayer is for ordinary men and women. With his fierce, faithful, prayers Elijah changed the weather patterns for over the months. He got the kings attention and taught the nation who the true God was. In these last days, we who are filled with His Spirit should expect our prayers to work too. We can pray that the Lord heals those who have come out into the light to rid themselves of their sin burdens. He will answer them with fire when our sacrifice is laid out before Him in prayer.
Praying For You,
Pastor Jason
