Appointed -- July 12, 2009

And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
Hebrews 9:27-28

We get one chance at this side of life. Like the old beer commercials used to tell us, “You only go round once!” But instead of using this one-time-opportunity to get the best tasting beer, fastest car or make the most money, we need to use it to the fullest so we can face Jesus. Even though our salvation is not based on works our works should be based on our salvation. We will be judged for the stewardship of the life God has given us. (Romans 14:12)

That is why it only took one sacrifice by Jesus for us all one Friday long ago. Scripture assures us that once was enough, just like our own life. Jesus doesn’t offer Himself over and over because His sacrifice was acceptable to God. That makes those who believe in Him acceptable to the Father.

Later when Jesus comes the second time, apart from the sin issue, our first judgment will be did we accept or reject Christ. This is because by His perfect, sinless sacrifice Jesus paid for sin and the parameters that allow us to have a relationship with God and all the eternal blessings that go with that relationship. He has truly resolved it by paying for our sins and redefined it by making about rejecting or accepting Him. At that time He will impart our final salvation and we will live forever with Him and we will forever be like Him.

Appointed,

Pastor Jason
