Rejoicing For Repentance -- April 2, 2009

Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love to him.
2 Corinthians 2:8

Here is something that I want our body to be good at when discipline has become necessary. After the discipline has worked then we need reconnect the person to our body. I want our body to be able to make people feel accepted when the correction has been made. Even though it is uncomfortable, I want them to know they are acceptable in Christ even when their bad behaviors are not. I want them to “feel” they are loved even during discipline.

This means we must show true tolerance with those around us. Like God, we take no pleasure in disciplining those entrusted to our care but we rejoice in repentance and restoration. Our satisfaction comes from being righteous and going as far as possible without sacrificing holiness so that others have opportunity to correct their course with the Father.

Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord God, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’
Ezekiel 33:11

This is the heart of God. He doesn’t take any pleasure in punishing wicked people. His joy is when we turn and live. That has to be our heart too. We never rejoice in iniquity and its consequences but we honor God for His justice. This brings joyous, mutually respectful living.

Love,

Pastor Jason
