The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.
Zephaniah 3:17
Even as the Lord is pronouncing judgment on His people He is promising to be in the midst of those who are humble and trusting in Him. In the Day of final judgment God’s people will be saved by Him in their midst. God does not enjoy punishing the wicked, He enjoys saving the repentant. (Ezekiel 33:11)
He will celebrate joyously because He has affected Salvation even in the time of judgment. The word rejoice in this verse is the Hebrew root word for twirl or spin. God will sing and dance whenever He can save a sinner. Jesus told His disciples that the angels celebrate salvation not the destruction of the enemy.
He will calm His people with His love during the tumult of that Judgment Day when He personally combats the enemies of His people. While the world is falling apart around them He will be with them; loving them and providing inner peace in times of trouble.
We can count on Jesus for these things today. We don’t have to wait to begin experiencing them. Jesus is the same throughout time. (Hebrews 13:8) He will hold back on judgment for us as long as He can. He will never celebrate our fall. He will rejoice when we repent ---- singing and dancing over us when we turn to Him. In distress He will comfort us. We can count on Him to minister us when it seems that our world is falling apart. He will calm us by His love.
The Lord Is With Us,
Pastor Jason
