Now And Then -- June 5, 2009

15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
Ephesians 1:15-21

We are supposed to begin to experience His inheritance in the saints now. According to verse 21 in this passage, it is God’s desire for us to begin to receive our place next to Christ in this time and that it will continue in the age that is to come. Our Father’s glory is spilling over on us so that we have the opportunity to be wise and have deep insight about who He is. We can have the hope of His calling richly released into our persons. His effective power can be unleashed into our lives in the same life giving way that it was used to raise Jesus from the dead. That power can give us authority and control over our lives just as it seated Christ in dominion over His enemies. We can begin to acquire these benefits now. Yet somehow we are still waiting for heaven to practice accessing the Father for these advantages that have been allowed now.

Think about it. We can have the same power that allowed Jesus to know the Father residing in us. We can have the same abundance of dynamism that raised Him from the dead coursing through our bodies. We can have the same clout He has in heaven when we talk with our Father or run into demonic enemies. We can initiate these blessings in our current circumstances.

This all begins with placing our trust in Christ. (Ephesians 1:13-14) When we place our trust in Him we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. He is our guarantee that we are saved and belong to Jesus. He is the person of the Godhead who we know Jesus and the Father through. Jesus promised He would teach us all things and give us the truth. Jesus said that the things His disciples were not ready to hear would be shared with them when they were by the Holy Spirit. He promised the Spirit would take the things of the Father and the Son and declare them to us. He called Him our peace that would not go away like the world’s temporary rest does. (John 14:25-27; 16:12-15) The Holy Spirit in us is the Power that Christ used for His ministry after His baptism. That is when the Holy Spirit descended from heaven and remained on Him. It was the initiation of His ministry.

Jesus didn’t need to be saved since He was perfect but He did need to model ministry for us. It is part of what He meant when John wanted Christ to baptize him instead of him baptizing Christ. Jesus said that John needed to allow the baptism so they could fulfill all righteousness. (Matthew 3:13-17) Jesus opened the way for us to be beloved sons with whom the Father was well pleased.

Father, I ask you to teach me what I need to KNOW about you today. Release in me the wisdom and revelation of Your Holy Spirit – teach me the truth I need about you today. Heal me and send me on Your Mission today. Release in me the power of Your Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead and gave Him the authority over the enemy. I ask this in Jesus, Your Son’s, Name, the only Name that can save.

Seeking Him In This Age,

Pastor Jason
