His Hope -- June 3, 2009

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
Romans 15:4

The ongoing, comforting education of the Scriptures teaches us hope. In this learned hope we can put up with weak brothers, come together in unity, and speak together to glorify our Father. We receive each other with the same servanthood attitude that Jesus demonstrated to each of us.

In this hope that we have been taught by Scripture’s perseverance and restfulness we find deep joy and peace that lead to being filled with God’s power. There is a definite linear process to having a stable life. First we are instructed by the Scriptures where we learn to hope. In our hope we receive joy and composure that frees us to access God’s power in our lives.

If we are not fed upon the Scriptures, our assurance in Him will fade leaving us without hope. Hope is the base of love, God’s power. (1 Corinthians 13:13) Without hope there is no joy in us. Our joy is the strength we live in everyday even when circumstances of life are not happy.

I encourage us all to look to the Scriptures daily so that we may be instructed in the correct expectation of the future, namely Jesus’ return for us. It is this joy derived from that hope allows us to love those around us. We know the end of things and that gives us compassion on even those who oppose us. It is this powerful position that we minister to others from. We are taught to hope by His Word so that we can reach out to others in confident compassion.

Learning His Hope,

Pastor Jason
