Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.
Matthew 27:51-53
Matthew 27:51-53
As we consider the Lord’s Resurrection please remember that His death was the payment for our sin and our release from Adam’s inheritance. As Jesus died the way was made open for us to God’s Holiest Place. As Jesus rose the way was made open for God into our hearts. Jesus’ death buys our pardon. His glorified body gives us confidence that God really sent Him and hope that we will be with Him in eternity.
Let us also be reassured of the literal reality of His Death and Resurrection. Without these two essential truths we are living in futility. Our faith is vain and we are still in our sins. The Gospel is not a fable or fairytale. It is recorded as history. If Jesus did not actually die for our sins and rise from the grave then the whole Christian community is whistling in the dark. At best we are trying to keep our spirits up with a positive message. At worst we are defrauding millions with false teachings. We know from the apostolic record that Jesus did die for us and rose again on that glorious day so long ago.
We know, not only from the written record, but from the witness of God’s own Spirit in us. We are His and He is ours through the wonderful relationship He provided on the cross. The best part is HE AROSE! He is still living among us today. We serve the Living God. He hears us and talks with us. He helps us through the difficulties of this life. Jesus is bringing us to the eternal reward He has promised all who trust in Him.
Celebrate Jesus,
Pastor Jason
