Spending Self -- April 12, 2009

And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.
2 Corinthians 12:15

It often seems as though for some people nothing is enough. Yet even when we are not treated well in return, we, like Paul, are called to spend ourselves for souls. Paul says even if loving practices cause others to love him less he won’t stop. He loved them despite any hurt or lack of return. Paul sees us as all belonging to God and to each other. I think it is important to make sure we are spending ourselves for souls, not just to make others happy.

We love each other as family. We love because of our relationship with each other not because of what they can do for us. That way we can grow up together, becoming more and more like Jesus. We will able to obey His commands even when our flesh doesn’t want to make the sacrifice involved in the transformation.

I am thankful for those God has placed around me. I know He put them in my life for our mutual benefit. I trust you Jesus so go ahead and spend me on souls.

Abundant Love,

Pastor Jason
