Simply Jesus -- April 11, 2009

But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!
2 Corinthians 11:3-4

Paul is afraid they will accept a substitute betrothal to another “Jesus”. He knows how easily we are deceived. He doesn’t want them to put up with anything less than the true, original fiancĂ© and the genuine romance in covenant with Him. The substitutes will not fulfill our needs so we should not tolerate their presence.

Today we allow many different “boyfriends” to hang around. We accept all kinds of arrangements from them. We are trying to please more than one prospect. Jesus isn’t the kind of guy that accepts backup boyfriends. His Spirit is easily grieved and won’t tolerate the things we do in our lives. Samuel calls them empty things, which cannot profit or deliver us. We cannot turn aside from the Lord because that turns us towards the vain shepherds.

Don’t settle for an imitation savior or a temporary salvation. Keep Him as the number one priority. We need to repent from wanting a human styled leader.

Simplicity to you,

Pastor Jason
