Loaf Lessons -- April 27, 2009

So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained.
Matthew 14:20

As a person committed to meeting the needs of others through the ministry of reconciliation given to us through Christ, I am very glad that the Holy Spirit committed this fact to scripture. After feeding five thousand men plus women and children, there were twelve baskets left over. Twelve is an important number because it is the same number of disciples that were ministering with Jesus. The point is that when working with Jesus our needs are met too.

These men were concerned with how they were going to feed the crowd. They weren’t even thinking that they were going to get lunch much less have excess leftovers to take home. Yet when they gathered up the remains of lunch it took all twelve of them.

Many of us need to learn the Loaf Lesson. If we are ministering with Jesus and not on our won He will provide. He is still YAHWEH JIREH, “the God who Provides”. Many who minister relegate themselves to a place of meagerness when Jesus has called us to an abundant. Paul, in light of the Philippians service, told them that God would provide all their needs according to His glory. (Philippians 4:19) He would take care of them based on His extravagant, unlimited glory not their limited needs.

Today let’s remember the loaves and then set our minds on ministry. We don’t need to be trapped in out needs or fears. Jesus is with us till the end and He has promised the abundant life. He has promised to meet our needs in His service. His promises are true.

Filled in Christ,

Pastor Jason
