Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Matthew 13:44
It seems to me that like the other parables in this section of Scripture the “man” is God. Like the “sower” and the “man” who sowed good seed but His enemy planted the weeds when this “man” found the treasure He hid it and made whatever arrangements it took to purchase the field to get the treasure. As a matter of fact He sold everything He had (Himself in Christ) to buy back the whole of creation.
This helps us to see the innate value in ourselves and others. Beyond the total depravity that has been laid on us because of our fall and beyond our worthless state we are valuable because we bear the Image God has invested in us. That Glorious Image supersedes our brokenness. Even though we are functionally depraved and worthless we carry value in our existence. It is this that Jesus desires to restore to functionality. He died to do it!
Ask the Lord that this truth of your value wash your mind so that you can overcome the temptations that come upon you because of the condemnation the enemy tries to put on you because of your failures. Ask Him to open your eyes to the value of all people whatever state they are in. Thank Him for redeeming your function as a priest and king to Him but more than that celebrate His love for the real you--His child!
