So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.
Deuteronomy 8:3

At the beginning of His earthly ministry Jesus quoted this text while facing Satan’s snares in the wilderness. His knowledge of the Word was a powerful weapon against the attack of the adversary. His example of quoting scripture instead of becoming personally entangled in a power struggle with the enemy should cause us all to realize we can't win the battle on our own merit. Jesus depended on the word to deal with Satan, shouldn't we?

The parallel used of Israel’s receiving the daily supply of manna lets us know the believer is to feed upon a regular, daily portion of God’s Word. I am not talking about a legalistic or religious time of ritual. I am talking about spending time with Jesus that includes the Bible. Don't think spiritual survival is possible for long without nourishment from the Word of God. First Peter 2:2 declares that God’s Word is as essential to the believer as milk to a newborn child. It is not an option!

As you perform your ministry, are you drawing daily on the Word? It is an understandable, defining, directing resource for meeting every challenge. Whatever you face, God’s promises are there, for you.

Eating the Scroll,

Pastor Jason
