In The Book -- March 16, 2009

To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.(emphasis mine)
1 Corinthians 1:2-3

This book written to the Corinthians is also written to all who in every place call on Jesus. Later Paul will tell us in this very book that the whole Old Testament was written down so we could benefit from the experience of those who have gone before us. We are supposed to let our scriptural knowledge direct our behaviors. Are you taking advantage of this blessing?

Jesus wants us to meet Him as the Word in the Word. He is there on every page. Jesus is the Angel of the Lord meeting with Abraham and He is the Rock that followed them through the desert. He is typified by the ram caught in the thicket and the lamb slain for Passover. Throughout the “text” of God’s curriculum Jesus is woven like the red cord that brought Rahab her salvation.

Please take advantage of this provision our Father has provided. Please meet with Jesus there. When I was a young Christian, I often thought of reading Scripture as a chore (even though I loved its stories). Now I often can hardly wait to get alone with it so I can see what new thing He will show me in its pages. I am often amazed at what I hadn’t seen the last time I read that same passage.

Thank You, Jesus for your word. I want to meet You there everyday. Breathe Your Spirit into me and feed me Your word as we meet.

Calling on Jesus in my place,

Pastor Jason
