Looking For Life -- February 25, 2009

Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses went into the tabernacle of witness, and behold, the rod of Aaron, of the house of Levi, had sprouted and put forth buds, had produced blossoms and yielded ripe almonds.
Numbers 17:8

Some important questions that properly test any ministry are: Is it living? Does it bring life? When the people questioned Aaron as the rightful priest of the nation, God said let’s give everyone the same test you are giving Aaron. He ordered the rods of all the leaders to be brought forth. Rods were the leaders symbol of authority. They were like the scepter that later kings would carry. They showed legitimate structure and authority belonged to those who carried them. But even good, well-intentioned support structures don’t bring life. They can only make a place for living vines to climb.

The rod of Aaron surpassed the others. It went beyond being well made. It was alive and produced fruit. Only God can give that ability to dead branches. As believers in Christ, that is what we are looking for – life. All of us have legitimate authority in the kingdom. That authority will support us so we have a place to grow. It is only when we follow our calling to fit into the place that God has given us, that we produce fruit. Then will be filled with life. Jesus referred to this as abiding in Him. Peter said that we were living stones being built into a SPIRITUAL HOUSE. We are not a dead structure. We are the body of Christ. When we find our place in His House we will experience the life that being aligned with Jesus brings. After all, He is the Chief Cornerstone.

What about me? Am I serving in the place that brings life? Am I just holding up dead activities? Ministry has its sacrifices. It can cost us dearly, but it always brings life when it is from the Lord.

Jesus, help me find my place in your house. Give me wisdom to discern the place that will bring life to your house. Give me courage so that I don’t buckle in to the pressure of the “necessary”. Bless You and Your Ministry – You are life and pleasure forever more.

Looking for Life,

Pastor Jason
