It Takes Two -- February 15, 2009

Vindicate me, O Lord, For I have walked in my integrity.
I have also trusted in the Lord; I shall not slip.
Psalm 26:1NKJV

This psalm ascribed to David who wrote it during the time that Saul was pursuing David in the wilderness. David cries out for Yahweh to vindicate him. His word choice is interesting because the word he has chosen for vindicate carries with it the idea of judgment. David is sure of his integrity in the case he is bringing before God. He is sure he hasn't dealt wrongly with Saul in any way. There is no known reason for Saul to hate him. So David cries for judgment. This is a bold place for believers to stand in prayer. When things are unresolved between two believers, can we stand and ask God to judge between us? Are we willing to trust the Lord and not slip (move off that trust.)

Very seldom in an impasse between two people is one completely wrong and one completely right. When found in an on-going dispute that seems irresolvable after strong efforts to come to terms sometimes all we can do is say, "Lord, you judge." Then we must be ready for the correction the Lord will bring to us. Walking in integrity is doing the best you can and trusting the Lord to keep you. It is not being perfect or making no mistakes. It is being humble and ready to accept correction from the Lord through life's circumstances and those around us.

The question is are we asking God to judge us along with those we are in conflict with or are we just asking God to judge them so we can get our way. When we pray against a brother or sister, we need to understand we are inviting our Father to investigate our lives too. It should be our desire to be vindicated (judged accurately) by Him.

Lord, You know all our hearts and motives. Judge between us all this day as we seek your will in our integrity (our best effort) and trust (our unwavering faith) in You. Bless us all with growth towards maturity.

Vindicated with you,

Pastor Jason
