Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
Luke 11:1 NKJV
Luke 11:1 NKJV
This introduction to what we call The Lord’s Prayer has always struck me as significant in the way the Lord’s praying roused their desire to pray. Teach us to pray like John’s disciples. Some of them had been John’s disciples, yet there was something about the way Jesus prayed that they asked Him to teach them to pray.
I invite you to go to the Lord and make the same petition the disciple long ago did. We want the Lord to teach us to pray. Some of us, like them, have even been the disciples of great men and women of faith who have poured their lives into us, but like them, we need Jesus, the great Intercessor, to teach us to pray.
This week as we read our Bibles and seek His face let’s take some time to wait for His instruction in what we should ask for, pray about, and worshipfully wait on His direction. This takes time and we have to learn to hear His voice and the meaning of what says just like the original disciples did. They were often asking what He meant in a parable and even sometimes when He explained things to them clearly.
I pray to You today Lord, “Teach us to pray.” We love You and want to be like You. Help us find Your will and help us pray like You.
Under His Teaching,
Pastor Jason
