And they went into the ark to Noah, two by two, of all flesh in which is the breath of life.
Genesis 7:15 NKJV
Genesis 7:15 NKJV
This little verse is packed with implications. Conservative commentators estimate that about 45,000 kinds of animals were aboard the ark, some in pairs (unclean) and some fourteens (clean). Noah and his three sons spent about 120 years faithfully building the vessel that would carry all of them as well as provisioning it for the voyage. Think of it, four men (and of course their wives as they were married into the family) working on a project for 120 years. That seems like a huge task to me. Yet the job wasn't finished until all were aboard. Scripture says of Noah, "...according to all that God commanded him, so he did."
Noah was faithful to build the ark as God had shown him. Noah and his small company gathered the food stores needed and God brought the animals into the ark. We are told they entered the ark on the same day as the Noah family did. Seven days before the flood began, they entered the ark. God shut them in. This teaches us about the division of work God expects between us and Him. We are to be faithfully building the things God has commanded us. You know, daily devotions, prayer, learning about Him through His Word. We are to be developing our character by treating those around us (especially in our own homes) as Jesus treated us. God will respond to us by bringing blessings to our lives. This is NOT necessarily financial gain or ease of living. It is knowing we are closely connected to Jesus whatever the channel of blessing He uses to confirm our relationship with Him. Let's do our part since we know He is faithful to do His.
