Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.
James 3:1
James 3:1
If you want to lead you must be ready to deal with a more intense accountability than those who follow. I think this is why God warns us against speaking evil of leaders. The job of those who teach is already hard. It is already set up to be tougher up front than anywhere. When you are the tip of the sword you face the enemy like no one else.
This is not a carte blanche for leaders to do what ever they want. Leaders are still accountable to those they serve. They are responsible to teach the truth – not their own agenda. They are required to live what they preach. They are held up for public display to be examined by anyone they try to hold sway over.
Judgment for leaders is not just more difficult because of the number of people who watch their lives but because they will be held more accountable before God. Jesus tells us that knowing more requires more and that the discipline will be greater for those who know more. (Luke 12:47-48) Paul tells us that when we are trusted with a stewardship we are required to be faithful. (1 Corinthians 4:2) Those of us who find ourselves in the “sweet spot” of public ministry are required to be faithful to Him as well as those we serve.
Knowing More,
Pastor Jason
