Soldier On -- June 26, 2009

You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.
2 Timothy 2:3&4

As Christians not all of us will be warriors. Some in Christ army are cooks, supply clerks, medics or maintenance workers. The army of Christ needs all of these positions filled to function at a high level. Not everyone was built for combat but everyone must be able to first and foremost function as a soldier. Everyone needs to know the basic weapons of warfare. They are Scripture, prayer meeting with other believers and sharing our faith while living a righteous life. Even those who don’t look forward to battle are called to soldier on when things are tough and to engage the enemy when necessary. We cannot allow ourselves to be so involved in the processes of this life (even the necessary ones) that we cannot endure hardship in good faith.

Often, when I read a passage like this one I find myself evaluating myself in the light it gives me. The question I have to ask is can I weather the hard times and still carry out my soldierly responsibilities? Do I stand in my place to do what is necessary when I long for the home fires? Would you pray with me that each of us is a good soldier of Jesus Christ as we travel together through this life in our community?

My blessing and prayers go with you as you march into our community to bring God’s comfort to those in your sphere of influence. May you have eyes to see the needs and a heart of boldness to reach out a touch those who are hurting. May the good works that you do be followed by your testimony so that God will be glorified.

Grace be upon us as we soldier together,

Pastor Jason
