Wise Fools -- May 20, 2009

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
Romans 1:21-23 (NIV)

I can't think of a more relevant statement for our society today. The very ungodly movements that began in our country with such seemingly good intentions has gone very awry. Feminism with its cry for "equal pay for equal work"(an excellent idea!) and its original anti-sexism (another excellent idea,) has become a place to promote liberalism. Feminism is no longer about protecting women's rights but about getting the right people in public office to keep the high-ranking officers of their movement in power.

The sexual revolution has freed us into chaos and caused more interpersonal friction than ever before. Marriage counseling is no longer a matter of helping people adjust to living together to become one. It is too often trauma control to patch people up who have been in too many (any) illicit relationships. Sometimes it is all the under-resourced church staff can do to stop the emotional blood flow from the amputation of such a relationship.

Children's rights have grown so much that once you make it through the gauntlet of abortion you can pretty much have your way. Parents aren't allowed to discipline children, yet are looked upon with horror when the child commits some heinous act. Violence is up among kids because we are not restraining them.

How did they get there? How did we get there? We knew God as a nation. We were founded on the principles of His teachings but we quit thanking Him and lifting Him up in our society. We made a god of our own image. We lowered God to god and we lowered ourselves form wise to fools. Yes, if we are not careful we can become futile in our thinking; dark in our hearts. It is then we can be seduced into joining the revolution that enslaves.

Staying Free,

Pastor Jason
