Faith Father -- May 23, 2009

He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.”
Romans 4:20-22

What was it that made Abraham righteous? What is our source of righteousness? We are told here that Abraham’s righteousness was credited to him because he was convinced that what God had promised He was able to do. This is our source of righteousness today. Paul the man who wrote this letter to the Romans tells the people of Philippi in another letter that he had achieved the righteousness of the law and that it was worthless like dung. He said that he had traded it all for the righteousness of grace accessed by faith. (Philippians 3:5-7) Our righteousness is based in the depth of our belief --conviction-- that God will do for us what He has promised (Grace).

And the Lord has promised us a lot. Jesus promised abundant life. He promised we would do greater things than He had done. He promised to be with us always. He promised power for witnessing and living. He promised we would have trouble in this life but that He would be with us. The question is do we believe the promise?

Let’s be righteous like our faith-father, Abraham. That means let’s go to God with belief in our hearts. When we ask Him to bless our lives let’s believe He is. Not only will this conviction in our hearts bring righteousness to our lives but it will please God. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that we can’t please God without faith. It is pleasing to God for us to believe. We can be righteous and pleasing to God by believing that He will perform all that He has promised.

Convinced,

Pastor Jason
