Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.”
Psalm 2:1-3
We all in our sinful nature set ourselves against God. Everyone does it. The common people along with their rulers advise each other how to best severe their responsibility to the Lord. We do this so that we can have our own way. It is our attempt to be our own god. This counsel among us is that we can be autonomous from our Creator. We tell ourselves we won’t have to answer to Him. And what is God’s response to our angry plan to go our own way?
He laughs derisively from the heavens. (Psalm 2:4) God is securely seated on His throne. No plotting of ours will dethrone Him or even shake Him. The only thing that will happen for those who oppose Him is distress. He has appointed Jesus to sit on the throne. None of the rest of us will be able to sit in His place. He promised David that his descendant would be established to rule forever. He is keeping that promise in Christ. So, what can we do?
Kiss the Son. (Psalm 2:12) Don’t foolishly stand against Him. When we receive the Salvation He has provided we put our enmity with Him away. He puts His wrath away so that we who have trusted in Him can be blessed. We who know Him serve Him not resist Him. We rejoice in our relationship with Him because it does allow for service and blessing.
In His Service,
Pastor Jason
