Bearing Burdens -- April 24, 2009

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30

Those who are tired of the burdens of their life need to hear Jesus’ call. If sin, shame, and the pressure of others are making you weary Jesus has invited you to lay down your heavy weight. You don’t have to struggle in labor to hold onto everything anymore. Instead of wearing ourselves out trying to carry our own heavy burdens we can trade them for His burden. We can learn to carry the responsible amount in our load from Him. We can be yoked to Him so we will find rest for our souls.

Jesus is gentle. He is controlled. He will not burden us with more than we can bear. He will not require more from us than we can handle. 1 Corinthians 10 tells us He will always give us a way to escape. He is also lowly. He is willing to be yoked to us; sinners. He is not too proud to be associated with we who have failed.

It is time to wear the appropriate yoke. The one He has chosen for us. It is time to connect with Him as the One who can show us the way to balance out our lives. It is time to trust the One who is gentle and lowly; the One who is looking out for our good. In comparison to the load we have placed upon ourselves through sin and fleshly desires His burden is indeed light; His training easy.

Yoke yourself with Christ today. It will give you the rest you need and the skills to be even more fruitful that you have been while working so hard to please Him. Jesus, help us depend more on you and less on ourselves.

Under His Yoke,

Pastor Jason
