Steadfast Security -- March 30, 2009

"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord."
1 Corinthians 15:58NKJV

Therefore refers to the doctrines concerning death, resurrection and eternal life that Paul lays out in the verses preceding this one. Since we know that we have believed in a risen savior and are assured of our own resurrection to eternal life then we don’t have to wonder if our work for Jesus is vain. We can be certain that it will count before the Lord. This is important to remember in those moments when we question the value of our life or ministry. Since we know that we are destined for an eternal home we can be assured that whatever we are doing will bring us significance throughout that unending future.

Since we are secure we can labor without doubt. We can labor whole-heartedly. "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going." Ecclesiastes 9:10NKJV. We also know that this life is all the opportunity that we have to accomplish the work God has for us. We can plan on improving our place in heaven after we get there. This is the time we are given to redeem so that we do not waste our lives. After this life closes we will be judged. We will be judged saved if we have accepted Jesus as our replacement in the Crucifixion. Then we will be judged for our works and rewarded accordingly.

The great thing is that our labor is not in vain! It counts. God promises not to forget the good we have done for the sake of His kingdom.

Confident It Counts,

Pastor Jason
