24Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. 25This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

I admire Apollos who was born in a cultural center where his gifted public speaking was trained and developed because he still allowed Aquila and Priscilla to take him aside to teach him the spiritual truths he needed to know. He was already a success but he had enough humility to be taught what he didn’t know. He was already a believer in the coming kingdom. I am thankful that he became better acquainted with the gospel so that he could be an even better defender of the faith.
I also admire Aquila and Priscilla who were willing to train a newcomer who was more gifted than they were. Obviously, he had a great attraction to the crowd and the ability to present the message with anointed skill. When they heard him, they took him aside so they could fill him in on the details.
The body of Christ needs to continue this legacy left to us. Gifting is no substitute for good training. The opposite is true too. Being well trained can only take us so far. When the body acts the way it should these two strengths pour together to become more effective in ministry.
Ready to bring my part to the table,
Pastor Jason
