God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Behold, I have received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.
Numbers 23:19-20
Numbers 23:19-20
Balak hired Balaam to curse God’s people. Balaam had gone along with it for the money, but he had hedged his bet by saying I can only speak what God tells me. Balak showed the people to Balaam, but instead of cursing them he blessed. Balak was very upset. He took Balaam to another place where the edge of the camp would be seen. He thought God’s people would be sinning on the outer edge of their society where there was less accountability, but it wasn’t so.
For the second time Balaam blesses Israel before his boss. Balaam is saying God is blessing Israel from every angle. God isn’t a lawyer parsing words. He isn’t lying, tricking us, or just saying nice words. He has blessed Israel and He won’t take it back. Only their sin would eventually separate them from His blessing. He wouldn’t go back on His promise.
We can count on the same character in God. He has promised to work things for our good. He has promised to be on our side. As long as we are in Jesus in His will, His blessing will flow. Help me keep Jesus central in my life, remember that I am blessed and keep sin from my life.
He is Faithful,
Pastor Jason
