On His Heart -- January 31, 2009

So Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel on the breastplate of judgment over his heart, when he goes into the holy place, as a memorial before the Lord continually. And you shall put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be over Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the Lord. So Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel over his heart before the Lord continually.
Exodus 28:29-30NKJV

This is so refreshing! Here in the middle of regulations and instructions on the specifics of clothing and ritual is a picture of Jesus in Aaron the High Priest. Aaron is to wear the names of the tribes of Israel on his shoulders as a memorial or reminder of his responsibility to carry the people before the Lord in all he does. (Exodus 28:5-12) The names are to be incribed on two stones one for each shoulder with six names. It is a beautiful picture of Jesus carrying us. We don't carry our God. He carries us. Jesus has made Himself responsible for our sin debt. We ride on His shoulders.

Even more awesome is that the judgment of God's children is carried on the heart of the High Priest. The Urim and Thummim were used to consult with God. His direction and the judgments come from His heart. Like the children of Israel on Aaron's breastplate, our names are continually on His heart as He goes before our Father to intercede for us. He can never forget to plead our case.

If you find yourself in a place of sin today, let me invite you to join me in His judgment. It is right and holy. It will set you free. His judgment comes from His heart. Jesus Himself will bring you before the throne and plead your case before the Father. He will cleanse you and make you holy. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NKJV

On His Heart,

Pastor Jason
