Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.
Genesis 40:23
Genesis 40:23
It’s true. People forget about us when the crisis we have served them in is over. Life is busy, chaotic, and topsy-turvy. One minute you are in the pits the next you are in the palace. Yesterday afternoon flight 1549 crash-landed in the Hudson. Chesley “Sully” Sullivan saved them all. Today he is a hero, but shortly he will just be a regular guy. Joseph had been the amazing dream interpreter just three days before the butler was released but when life re-engaged him he forgot him. It has happened to all of us. We have served someone in a significant way only to have them forget all about us when life resumed.
The blessing is that God NEVER forgets us. He promises to love us more deeply than our mother. Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you. Isaiah 49:15 We can count on God to remember our situation. We can count on Him to see us through the death of His Son Jesus. Joseph found this to be true. God sent a dream to Pharaoh so that butler would remember him too.
What we have to remember is not to despair in the dungeon. We have to remember that God has not forgotten us, or the good we have done. We are precious to Him like children. If you are in a dark place to day, REMEMBER! Remember that Jesus is with you and that the Father has not forgotten you. Call on His Spirit to bring His presence into your situation. Joseph held on to the promises of God and God did not let him down. We can do the same.
Unforsaken,
Pastor Jason
