Victorious Vision -- January 5, 2009

And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are— northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever…”
Genesis 13:14-15

The Lord is challenging Abram to have a large, broad vision. He calls Abram to see as far as he can in a full three hundred sixty degree sweep of his surroundings. Abram is to lift his eyes from the limited situation he finds himself in after Lot chose the seeming garden spot to raise his flocks and the populated areas to market his goods so that he could become rich. The Lord is promising to give all that Abram can see to him if he can focus on what is available in the Lord. The effect of Abram’s ability to lift his eyes is not limited to his life alone but will affect those who come after him.

The Lord, by implication is making the same offer to us. If we can focus on what is available to us in Him instead of seeing everything through the provincial perspective our personal experience brings to us then we can have all we can see in Jesus. We find ourselves in a situation where we have been left behind and left out. Everyone is shaped by his or her life. This shaping helps define each of us. It also limits what we can do. The Lord is asking us to put aside our limits and let Him lead us in a way that enriches us and our children after us.

Whenever we find ourselves left behind by those who should have supported us we need to refocus. Our perspective has to be one of lifted eyes. Eyes that see beyond the limits of the place we are currently in. Our vision must sweep the entire landscape of our lives and not remain centered on the recent event that seems to limit us. In this way, we ensure a high quality in our lives that leaves behind a large legacy to those who will come after us.

Looking For His Vision,

Pastor Jason

  1. Great devotional today. So very true, people may fail us but God never will. We need to keep our eyes focused on Jesus. I love you Babe.
